Dr. Jordan Nickell

Dr. Jordan Nickell grew up in rural northwest Missouri where the livestock easily outnumber the people, and because his dad was a large animal veterinarian, that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. You would often find Dr. Nickell riding with the elder Dr. Nickell, making various farm calls. Veterinary medicine had clearly played a large role in his life, and while obtaining a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at the University of Missouri, he decided to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Nickell received his DVM from the University of Missouri, after which he moved to Gainesville, Florida, and completed a one-year small animal rotating internship at the University of Florida. Anesthesiology had been an interest of his early on in vet school and after his internship, he began a three-year residency at the University of California, Davis. After finishing his residency, Dr. Nickell accepted a one-year, Post-Doctoral fellowship in anesthesiology at Colorado State University. He then moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he was a clinical instructor for one year. The next four years included another one year stay at Colorado State University as a staff anesthesiologist, a faculty position as a clinical assistant professor at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona, and as the anesthesiologist at Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego, California.

Dr. Nickell is thrilled to be at Summit Veterinary Referral Center. As the anesthesiologist at Summit, he helps to ensure that staff are appropriately trained to anesthetize, monitor, and support each patient during their anesthetic episode. Additionally, he consults on cases to guarantee that patients receive exceptional pain management. He is also happy to answer questions from referring veterinarians or pet owners who want to know more about their pet’s potential or forthcoming anesthesia.

When not in the hospital, Dr. Nickell enjoys spending time with his Fiancée and two cats. He is an avid fan of the Missouri Tigers and Kansas City Chiefs, and also enjoys hiking, fishing, kayaking, and other outdoor activities.
